Banana Pi BPI-Wifi6 Router: New single-board computer router kit offers Wi-Fi 6 connectivity for $30

Banana Pi has released yet another single-board computer (SBC) that it has designed to be used as a home router. To recap, the company presented the BPI-R4 (curr. $138.99 on Amazon) in November with 5G and Wi-Fi 7 compatibility. Strictly speaking, the BPI-Wifi6 Router has been around for a while, having been introduced last summer.

However, Banana Pi has now decided to sell the SBC as a complete unit with an accompanying enclosure and built-in antennas. Thus, the device can serve as a drop-in replacement for an existing router, albeit only if you are comfortable using Banana Pi's OpenWrt fork (Linux 5.10). As CNX Software notes, the full BPI-Wifi6 Router set comes with three LAN ports, one fewer than the standard board itself.

Unfortunately, it is unclear why Banana Pi removed the fourth Ethernet port. At any rate, the router relies upon a Triductor TR6560 chipset with two ARM Cortex-A9 CPU cores, 512 MB of DDR3 RAM and 128 MB of SPI NAND flash storage. For reference, the Triductor TR6560 provides up to 573.5 Mbps and 2,401.9 Mbps transfer speeds over 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz connections, respectively.

At the time of writing, Banana Pi sells its BPI-Wifi6 Router Router on AliExpress for $30.90 with an accompanying case and antennas. For now, the company is offering the router with a choice of EU or US power supplies without any surcharges. Please see Banana Pi's wiki for more information.
