Oppo to debut Sony IMX709 camera and 'breakthrough' cat's eye lens with the Reno7 and Reno7 Pro
Oppo has confirmed another feature making its way to the Reno7 series, due on November 25. The company has already teased that at least the Reno7 Pro will have a notification light hidden behind its camera housing, as we reported yesterday. Now, it has announced on Weibo that the Reno7 series will also showcase a 'cat's eye camera'.
Supposedly, Oppo has developed a lens that mimics a cat's eye and which promises 60% improved light sensitivity coupled with 35% reduced image noise. The company has not confirmed what other camera lens it is comparing its 'breakthrough in industry imaging' with, though. Nonetheless, it is willing to tell fans that the lens sits above a Sony IMX709 sensor. For reference, the IMX709 is a 32 MP sensor with an RGBW pixel structure.
As we have discussed separately, both the Reno7 and Reno7 Pro will include this new front-facing camera. However, the Reno7 SE will rely on the IMX471, a 16 MP sensor that the OnePlus 7 through OnePlus 9 series uses as their front-facing cameras. By contrast, the IMX709 will make its debut in the Reno7 and Reno7 Pro. Hopefully, brings some of its 'breakthrough' lens technology to the pair's rear-facing cameras, too.
