Oppo R15 and R15 Pro are official, notched displays in tow
The Oppo R15 and R15 Pro are now official and, as expected, feature a notched display. Interestingly, the promotional materials show some variants with bright wallpaper drawing attention to the notch, while the others are shown with dark wallpaper, obscuring the notch. Oppo’s sister company, OnePlus, has taken some heat on user forums as its twin, the OnePlus 6, will also feature a notched design. Its CEO took to the OnePlus blog to defend the decision.
Both the Oppo R15 and the R15 Pro incorporate largely the same specifications. Each is centered on a 6.28-inch AMOLED display with a 19:9 ratio and a 2280 x 1080 pixel resolution. Also in common is 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage as well as dual real cameras (16MP + 5MP) and a 20MP front camera. Color OS 5.0 is pre-installed, which is based on Android 8.1 Oreo.
The differences between the two devices reside around the processor and battery choices. The regular R15 picks up a MTK Helio P60 octa-core SoC clocked at 2.0GHz mated to a Mali-G72 MP3 GPU, whereas the R15 Pro scores a Snapdragon 660 octa-core chip clocked at 2.2GHz mated to a new Adreno 512 GPU. Surprisingly, the R15 has the slightly larger battery with a 3,450mAh capacity against 3,400mAh battery capacity of the R15 Pro.
The Oppo R15 is retailing for the equivalent of US$476 while the R15 Pro is retailing for around US$524.
