OnePlus Nord CE 2 gets Dimensity 900 but offers the Nord CE's 64 MP camera and 90 Hz display, starts from ₹23,999 (US$320)
After several rounds of rumors, the OnePlus Nord CE 2 is finally here. This year's Nord CE 2 still largely resembles the first gen Nord CE 5G in terms of camera and display hardware. At 7.8 mm, the Nord CE 2 is slightly slimmer than its predecessor and continues to offer a dedicated 3.5 mm headphone jack along with two SIM slots and a microSD card slot that allows storage expansion up to 1 TB.
You get the same triple-camera setup comprised of a 64 MP f/1.7 primary camera, an 8 MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle, and a 2 MP macro lens. A 16 MP Sony IMX471 sensor helps with the selfies. That being said, OnePlus is still bringing an improved portrait mode and introducing Nightscape. On the video side of things, OnePlus said that several AI enhancements for improved background lighting and color optimization in low-light conditions.
The display is carried forward from the original Nord and continues to be a 6.43-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel with a 90 Hz refresh rate. OnePlus said that the Nord CE 2's display is HDR10+ certified, and it features a Gorilla Glass 5 protection.
The major change we see with the Nord CE 2 is with respect to the SoC. Unlike the Nord CE that featured a Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G SoC, the new Nord CE 2 is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 900 with 2x Cortex-A78 cores clocked up to 2.4 GHz and 6x Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2 GHz.
OxygenOS 11 based on Android 11 comes pre-installed with the promise of two years of Android feature updates and three years of security updates. OxygenOS 12 is slated to arrive in H2 2022. Powering the phone is a 4,500 mAh battery similar to its predecessor. However, we do get to see 65 W fast charging which OnePlus claims can charge the battery from 0 to 65% in under 15 minutes and to 100% in just 32 minutes.
The OnePlus Nord CE 2 will be available in Gray Mirror and Bahama Blue colors and will start from ₹23,999 (US$320) for the 6 GB/128 GB version and from ₹24,999 (US$333) for the 8 GB/128 GB variant. As always, there are several bank and EMI offers available to take advantage of once online sales begin February 22.
