OPPO switches to a Mi 11 Ultra-inspired look in an upcoming K-series smartphone

A new OPPO phone, most likely a new K-series variant, has leaked out via the Chinese regulator TENAA. Besides the fact it may become the latest Dimensity 1200-powered smartphone on its launch, it already stands out in that it has adopted the new "visor-cam" look for its triple rear shooters.

The smartphone design world has been dominated by increasingly large camera humps that upsets a device's balance, particularly when they are set rear panel side-down on tables or desks. Then again, Xiaomi may have changed things with the launch of the Mi 11 Ultra. The glass over its main sensors stretches all the way across the back of the phone, in a trend growing with the release of the Galaxy Z Flip3 and (eventually) the Pixel 6 series.

OPPO may have inadvertently indicated that it is about to jump on the "visor-cam" bandwagon too, by submitting an upcoming phone to the TENAA and MIIT authorities prior to its launch in China. These new certifications show that the device's rear camera glass covers nearly all of the top quarter of so of the back of its chassis.

Then again, it is unlikely to house a secondary display as does that of the Mi 11 Ultra. Instead, (as highlighted by the leaker Digital Chat Station) it contains 3 lenses on one side, leaving the rest of the hump for the same branding seen on the recently-launched OPPO K9.

However, this new phone (with the model number PEYM00) is unlikely to be a refresh of the pre-existing model. Instead, it may prove to be more of a K-series flagship, as its TENAA listing hints it may run on a different processor: MediaTek's top-end Dimensity 1200.

This new variant is now also slated to have a 6.43-inch 120Hz FHD+ AMOLED display, a 64MP main shooter and a 4,500mAh battery with 65W charging. Therefore, it is possible it may start at more than the K9, which went for 1,999 yuan (~US$308) at its launch.
