Rumor | OPPO has a 2021 launch date for its first-gen foldable
OPPO is one of the most prominent OEMs rumored to mount a challenge to Samsung's prevailing dominance in the foldable smartphone market. The BBK Electronics subsidiary is currently thought to have a device that might be capable of competing with the flagship Galaxy Z Fold3, based on its alleged specs.
To recap briefly, this includes an up-to-8-inch main flexible display with a 2K resolution, LTPO tech for its AMOLED panel and the 120Hz refresh rate Samsung only managed in its third generation of top-end foldables. This device is still projected to make it onto the market by the end of 2021 - now, the leaker Bald Panda purports to confirm this with a slightly more concrete date.
The tipster asserts that OPPO now plans to hold a major product event in November 2021, during which its first-gen foldable, with all the specs mentioned above as well as the Snapdragon 888 processor, will be formally introduced.
This might be good news for fans of cutting-edge mobile tech; on the other hand, whether the OEM plans to release its alleged Z Fold3-killer internationally or not remains to be seen.
Furthermore, we still do not know whether this putative super-flagship will have punch-hole cameras or something more cutting-edge; the camera prowess it may offer; what it might be called or how OPPO will price it should it truly be released soon.
