The most prestigious ThinkPad line is the ThinkPad X1, with the X1 Carbon as its most well-known model. When the X1 Carbon Gen 13 Aura Edition, the newest model, was launched in November of last year as part of Intel's early enablement program of the Lunar Lake platform, it came to the market in very limited form: Only one CPU and one screen option were available. This is very unusual for ThinkPads, as the enterprise laptops normally have a huge variety of options.
Lenovo has now finally remedied that, as the ThinkPad X1 Carbon G13 (also available on Amazon) is now customizable in Lenovo's US shop. This means interested buyers can finally order the X1 Carbon with an IPS screen option, which will dramatically prolong battery life compared with the OLED version we tested. Also, 16 GB RAM and Ultra 5 CPUs are bringing down the price - the X1 Carbon G13 launched for roughly $2,500, it now starts at $2,100.
Last, but certainly now least, this finally brings the haptic touchpad option to American shores - we tested the European version, which always shipped with the excellent haptic Sensel touchpad, but the US version was limited to the traditional mechanical option thus far. The haptic Sensel touchpad is available without any surcharge as of this article.
What is still missing from the list of options is 5G/LTE. Also, the IPS screen is a touch-display - usually, Lenovo also has a Low Power non-touch one for the X1 Carbon, which is still nowhere to be found, too. So, it seems for some potential buyers, the waiting game is still on.
