Nothing Phone series tipped to produce inaugural budget variant in new model number leak
Nothing's next smartphone? (Source: Sanju Choudhary via Twitter)
Nothing has a new smartphone in the works - however, it is not a third-gen flagship, according to the latest rumors. Instead, this new device is tipped to launch as an affordable alternative to the current Phone (2), with a product name and model number to match. In any case, it seems its design will come as no surprise to fans of Carl Pei's brand.
Nothing released its second-gen flagship Phone (2) not long ago - nevertheless, its possible successor may be leaking out already, according to the latest rumors. It has allegedly been registered with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) as a new device from the Carl Pei-led brand - however, its status as a Phone (3) is apparently in doubt.
According to noted leaker Abhishek Yadav, this device could actually emerge as more of a "Phone 2A" (or "Phone (2a)", rather) - a theory upheld by a second tipster on Twitter/X. Sanju Choudhary's alleged photo evidence seems to gel with the suspected new product name: while the (oddly carbon copy-effect) image does indicate the presence of Glyph lighting, it is that of the original Phone (1), not the updated Phone (2).
Accordingly, it seems Nothing might have a fairly overt contender for devices such as the Pixel 8a in the works. The device, also known as the "A142" (or "AIN142", according to Choudhary's findings) is also said to have an AMOLED display of the same size as the Phone (2) and to have a new battery ("NT03"), although its full specs (and capacity) remain unknown for now.

I became a professional writer and editor shortly after graduation. My degrees are in biomedical sciences; however, they led to some experience in the biotech area, which convinced me of its potential to revolutionize our health, environment and lives in general. This developed into an all-consuming interest in more aspects of tech over time: I can never write enough on the latest electronics, gadgets and innovations. My other interests include imaging, astronomy, and streaming all the things. Oh, and coffee.
