Aaeon has added a new and particularly compact single-board computer to its growing lineup. The de next-RAP8 is available with different Intel processors and should therefore be usable like a regular desktop PC. Fast network ports are onboard, as is PCIe.
Aaeon is selling various single-board computers, and the brand has now launched another device in this category. The so-called de next-RAP8 can now be preordered, as the base model can be purchased for $750. It could take up to two months for the single-board computer to arrive at customers, and prospective buyers should carefully review the shipping terms beforehand. A CPU cooler is not included in the advertised price.
Depending on the configuration, the SBC is powered by an Intel Core i7-1365UE, Intel Core i5-1335UE or i3-1315UE with up to 10 cores. As usual, the LPDDR5X memory is soldered and offers up to 16GB of capacity. Moreover, the Aaeon de next-RAP8 measures 3.4 x 2.2 inches and supports two monitors via eDP 1.4 and HDMI 1.2a. The former maxes out at 3840 x 2160 pixels, while the latter only supports up to 1920 x 1080 pixels at 60Hz, according to the manufacturer.
A SATA connection can be used for mass storage expansions, but the SBC can also accommodate an M.2 2280 SSD. Similar to the Raspberry Pi 5, PCIe 3 with four lanes is accessible via a corresponding cable. USB and RS232/422/285 are available as well, while two USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports can be used to hook up peripherals or external storage devices. Lastly, the single-board computer sports two Ethernet ports, one with 2.5Gbps and another with 1Gbps of bandwidth.

I have been active as a journalist for over 10 years, most of it in the field of technology. I worked for Tom’s Hardware and ComputerBase, among others, and have been working for Notebookcheck since 2017. My current focus is particularly on mini PCs and single-board computers such as the Raspberry Pi – so in other words, compact systems with a lot of potential. In addition, I have a soft spot for all kinds of wearables, especially smartwatches. My main profession is as a laboratory engineer, which is why neither scientific contexts nor the interpretation of complex measurements are foreign to me.

My fascination for technology goes back a long way to the Pentium II era. Modding, overclocking and treasuring computer hardware has since become an integral part of my life. As a student, I further developed a keen interest in mobile technologies that can make the stressful college life so much easier. After I fell in love with the creation of digital content while working in a marketing position, I now scour the web to bring you the most exciting topics in the world of tech. Outside the office, I’m particularly passionate about motorsports and mountain biking.
