Nex Computer has unveiled its latest accessory aimed at utilising the performance of current smartphones. The NexMonitor will be available in 2.5K or 4K variants, both 27-inch monitors. Each NexMonitor has numerous ports, a magnetic wireless charging stand for your smartphone and enough stand space to house a mini-PC like the Mac mini.

Nex Computer has revealed its latest device, the NexMonitor. Like the company's NexDock devices, the NexMonitor allows you to turn your Android smartphone into a computer. Currently, only a few smartphone manufacturers have taken advantage of Android's built-in desktop functionality, though. Nex Computer highlights that Huawei, Samsung and Motorola have implemented desktop functionality, but so has LG.

The NexMonitor will be available as a 2.5K and 4K monitor. According to NexMonitor, the 2.5K edition will top out at 100 Hz, but the 4K version will only reach 60 Hz. Both monitors will measure 27-inches across and will rely on IPS panels. Nex Computer states that they will peak at 320 nits too, with 1,000:1 contrast ratios and 4 ms response times (GtG).

Additionally, both models will support wireless charging for smartphones via a magnetic mount. However, you must connect your smartphone via a USB Type-C cable to enable its desktop mode. Nex Computer has also integrated dual 5 W speakers and the following ports:

Inputs

  • 1x USB 3.1 Type-C (DP Alt mode USB PD - 65 W)
  • 1x HDMI (2.0)
  • 1x DisplayPort 1.2

Outputs

  • 2x USB Type-A
  • 1x USB Type-B
  • 1x 3.5 mm audio jack
  • 1x RJ45 LAN
  • 1x SD card reader

The NexMonitor starts at US$449 plus shipping for the 2.5K edition. By contrast, the 4K edition costs US$549; both should start shipping in July 2022. Currently, Nex Computer is accepting pre-orders, with US$100 due when you do so. The company states that pre-ordering the NexMonitor 'will secure your price as it increases in the future'. It adds that a balancing payment will be due '1-2 weeks prior to shipment'.
