Display bezels have been cut down to just over 5 mm on three sides to reduce both weight and size. Other features include individually backlit RGB keyboard keys and X-Rite Pantone pre-calibrated FHD/4K UHD displays.

The new lightweight Aero family from Gigabyte has been a big hit with users. Its focus on core performance without all the bells and whistles of an Aorus or MSI GS series notebook make it a very attractive option for mainstream on-the-go gamers. Now, the Taiwanese manufacturer is ready to expand the lineup to include 15.6-inch offerings.

According to the official promotion from NewEgg, the upcoming Aero 15 will be one of the smallest gaming notebooks in its size category with GTX 1060 graphics. Similar to the Lenovo Yoga 910 convertible and Dell XPS 13/15 series, Gigabyte has reduced the bezels of the Aero 15 to just 5.1 mm for an overall smaller footprint. Combine this with its 19.9 mm thick CNC all-aluminum chassis and you have a final weight of just 2.1 kg. Gigabyte says that the overall dimensions between the Aero 14 and Aero 15 are so close that users can easily mistake one system for the other when the lids are closed. In comparison, the 15.6-inch Asus FX502VM with the same CPU and GPU options as the Aero 15 weighs in at almost 500 g heavier.

According to the press release below, core specifications include:

  • 15.6-inch FHD or 4K UHD WVA display
  • Intel Core i7-7700HQ CPU
  • GeForce GTX 1060 GPU
  • 2x M.2 PCIe SSD
  • 2x DDR4 SODIMM slots
  • Thunderbolt 3, HDMI 2.0, mini-Display Port
  • 94 Wh battery
  • 356 x 250 x 19.9 mm
  • Individually-lit RGB keyboard
  • 2.1 kg

Gigabyte says the display will be the world's first to be certified by X-Rite Pantone and should come pre-calibrated for "the most accurate and consistent colors". Nonetheless, it remains to be seen what the exact sRGB coverage will be and there appears to be no 120 Hz/5 ms or G-Sync options to reduce tearing and ghosting.

NewEgg will be shipping the new Aero 15 FHD next month for a starting price of $1900 USD. The 4K UHD SKUs will come one or two months later according to the manufacturer with a price premium in the $100 to $200 USD range.
