Light Up The Town is a brand-new cozy, Christmas‑themed decorating game on Steam where you play as a young ferret stringing lights across a snow‑covered Colorado town. Released on 7 December 2025 for PC, it has now entered the "Popular New Releases" chart on Steam - right before Christmas. Players who want a short, self‑contained holiday experience at an accessible sub‑$15 price point could be interested in this one.
Set in Bellflower, Colorado, you play as Bean, a precocious ferret tasked with lighting up the town ahead of its Winter Festival after the local electrician, Bean’s father Chuck, is sidelined. Gameplay is designed around clicking anywhere in the environment to "throw" string lights and decorations, adjusting their size, rotation and density to create your own displays across houses, streets and trees. There is no wiring or power management to worry about: wherever you place lights, they simply work.
Bellflower is further split into handcrafted areas that gradually unlock as you raise each neighborhood’s "cheer" by decorating it enough, with coins scattered around town that can be spent on new light types and ornaments. Players can switch between first‑person and third‑person views - but a lot of players prefer first‑person for navigation and third‑person to admire the animations and outfits. A full playthrough of the main story takes around three hours, with another few hours available for completionists who want to fully decorate every corner of town.
Light Up The Town comes from indie outfit Meadow Studios and first surfaced earlier in 2025 as a demo for cozy‑game communities as a "holiday decorating simulator in a mountain town." The demo circulated through YouTube and TikTok in November and early December, which helped build wishlist momentum on Steam before the full release this month.
Going by player reviews, lighting system, voice acting and the overall atmosphere are the main points of appreciation. There's some criticism as well, especially around performance and bugs, a progression economy some find grindy, and a scope that feels modest for the price if you expect more than a handful of holiday evenings with it.
On Steam, Light Up The Town is currently priced at around $14.99. A demo is available if you don't wanna commit fully. Plus, if you prefer using a controller, the game has full controller support as well.
