Xiaomi is preparing to expand its Redmi Pad series again, having announced the Redmi Pad Pro this year. This time, it appears that the company plans to offer a smaller version of the Redmi Pad SE globally with not just an 8.7-inch display but also 4G connectivity.

It seems that Xiaomi will soon return to the Redmi Pad series, having released tablets like the Redmi Pad SE and Redmi Pad Pro (curr. $359.99 on Amazon) so far. According to early IMEI database reports, the next entry in the Redmi Pad series could be another Redmi Pad SE model. However, the new model is rumoured to be significantly smaller than the existing Redmi Pad SE, which features an 11-inch display like the Xiaomi Pad 6.

As the screenshots below show, Gizmochina has found evidence that Xiaomi is developing a version of the Redmi Pad SE with an 8.7-inch display, which would be a completely new display size for Xiaomi. For reference, while Xiaomi's tablets typically span at least 10-inches across, it has dipped below 8.7-inches before with the Mi Pad 4, which landed six years ago with an 8-inch display. Surprisingly, the new Redmi Pad SE will also sport 4G connectivity, unlike its larger sibling.

On top of that, it appears that Xiaomi will offer the Redmi Pad SE 8.7 4G in global and Indian variants, denoted by the 24076RP19G and 24076RP19I model numbers shown below. Given that the existing Redmi Pad SE features a Snapdragon 680 chipset, we suspect the smaller Redmi Pad SE 8.7 4G will not be powerful enough to rival some compact tablets like the Apple iPad mini 6 or the Lenovo Legion Tab. Instead, the tablet will likely serve as a rival to the cheaper Lenovo Tab M8 or Tab M9. Based on the Redmi Pad SE 8.7 4G's '24076RP19' root model number, it seems that Xiaomi intends to release the tablet next month in some capacity.
