New Tesla Model X cars may no longer support Steam games

New deliveries of Tesla Model X may be losing support for Steam games. This info comes from a message the company sent to a Reddit user who is about to take delivery of the long-range version. As per the message, the electric vehicle maker is updating the "gaming computer" inside the EV, and it's "no longer capable" of running Steam games.

This message ends with a button that asks the customer whether they want to proceed with the delivery after hearing about the change. As of now, there's no confirmation on whether the newer deliveries of the Tesla Model S will also see a drop in Steam games support.

When it comes to the current owners of the Tesla Model X, they can still play Steam games on their electric vehicle. There are no current signs pointing to the company removing it from the old shipments through a software update.

Regarding what could possibly be leading to the removal of Steam games support from the newer Model X cars, it could be an attempt to cut down on the production costs and keep the pricing competitive. Tesla is currently engaged in a price war against Chinese manufacturers such as BYD, and gaming-level RAM and storage don't come cheap.

Tesla may also have noticed that not as many Model X owners are using the gaming feature that's available in their electric vehicles. If that's the case, it would be pointless to keep paying the parent company, Valve, for using its gaming platform. It's also worth noting that Tesla's latest release, Cybertruck, doesn't come with support for Steam games. This suggests that offering gaming ability is no longer a priority for the company.
