Seiko has opened retail sales of two new Astron GPS Solar limited-edition models in Singapore, following their reveal last month on December 15 alongside two more Astron models. Both watches are now listed on Seiko’s Singapore website, and feature lightweight titanium construction with textured blue dials - all of which are inspired by a galaxy-style finish.
The higher-end model is the Seiko Astron SSH187J1, a dual-time chronograph powered by Seiko’s GPS Solar calibre 5X83. The watch supports automatic GPS time adjustment, dual time zones, a perpetual calendar valid until February 2100, and a chronograph capable of measuring up to 12 hours in 1/20-second increments. It comes in a 43.3 mm titanium case with a thickness of 13.4 mm, 100 metres of water resistance, and a ceramic bezel with a hard coating. On Seiko Singapore’s website, the SSH187J1 is priced at SG$4,033 (~$3,136) and is limited to 1,500 pieces worldwide.
The second model, the Seiko Astron SSJ039J1, takes a more lean approach with a three-hand layout. It uses the GPS Solar calibre 3X62 and is equipped with GPS-based timezone adjustment, date display, a power reserve indicator, and the same perpetual calendar system. The titanium case measures 42.0 mm in diameter and 12.0 mm thick, which makes it a little slimmer than the chronograph variant. This model is listed at SG$3,488 (~$2,712) on Seiko Singapore’s site, with production also capped at 1,500 units globally.
Both watches feature black-finished titanium bracelets, sapphire crystals with anti-reflective coating, and luminous hands and markers. The shared blue textured dials give the two models a nice, connected visual identity despite their different functions. We can expect the other two models - the radio-controlled SBXY105 and SBXY107 - to become available for purchase in the near future as well. However, the current product pages show limited stock, so the GPS solar models will likely go out of stock soon.
