In a brand-new collaboration with Beams, Seiko has announced a King Seiko watch with a black dial, reference SDKA025. This will be a new limited-edition piece to commemorate Beams' 50th Anniversary. The clothing brand, which was established in 1976, is based out of Tokyo.
The design direction of the SDKA025 is mostly about its black dial, which features a stamped radial pattern to resemble rays of light. This textured surface has gold-toned hands and markers, including pyramid-cut indices that provide a high-contrast, multi-faceted reflection. The stainless steel case has the sharp, "KSK" geometry (referring to the 1965 King Seiko KSK).
The SDKA025 is powered by the Caliber 6L35, which Seiko identifies as its thinnest current automatic movement. While the movement's slimness is essential for achieving the watch's 10.7 mm height, its performance metrics get you a different trade-off compared to the 6R series seen in other recent Presage releases. The 6L35 operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, alongside a more modest power reserve of 45 hours.
The price tag for the SDKA025 is, however, premium - with a retail price of 440,000 JPY (~$2,774) including tax. The package includes exclusive Beams branding on the case back, with a custom-branded box and a dedicated travel case. Given the limited volume of 300 pieces and a huge domestic following for both brands, this release will attract mostly Japanese collectors, since plans of a global release are almost non-existent.
