Casio is leaning into cyberpunk nostalgia with its upcoming G-Shock DW-5600 x Ghost in the Shell collaboration watch. Scheduled to be released in March in Japan, this limited-run timepiece honors the legendary manga and anime franchise with a subtle yet distinct design twist on the classic square.
Based on the rugged DW-5600, the watch features electric turquoise text accents on the bezel in a nod to the cybernetic aesthetic of the series. But the real "ghost" is in the dial; turning on the LED backlight reveals a silhouette of the protagonist, Major Motoko Kusanagi, floating behind the time.
Right now, details are scarce. The watch has been spotted on the official Ghost in the Shell Exhibition website, though Casio hasn't released anything officially. It’s priced at a very reasonable ¥15,400 (roughly $105 USD) and set to go on sale sometime in March.
The G-Shock DW-5600 x Ghost in the Shell will ship in special packaging, with a white collector’s box emblazoned with a prominent portrait of The Major and the official Ghost in the Shell logo.
If you’re in Tokyo this March, you might want to stop by the exhibition to snag one. It’s unclear if and when the watch will make its way to other markets.
