New AirPods ready to go, could join new MacBook Pro for May launch
Apple has been selling AirPods basically as fast as they can build them, and it looks as though it wants to capitalize on their popularity with a new model. Although we don’t know much in terms of what the new model will bring to the lineup, Apple tipster Jon Prosser is expecting them to debut next month. The timing makes sense as this is also when Apple is expected to release its next round of products including a redesigned 14-inch MacBook Pro.
Speculating about what the new AirPods could bring to the lineup, there are murmurings that these could be an AirPods Pro “Lite” bearing the same design as that model but without the active noise cancelling feature. This could give Apple the opportunity to push the current models based on the original design down the range in terms of pricing making the entry point even more attractive or replacing them altogether.
The AirPods Pro are currently priced at US $249, the AirPods (second-generation) with Wireless Charging Case are priced at US$199 and the AirPods with Charging Case are priced at US$159. It is also conceivable that the current mid-tier model could get pushed down to US$159 making wireless charging standard across the lineup. This would allow the mooted AirPods Pro Lite to slot in at the US$199 price point. With the redesigned 14-inch MacBook Pro also expected to drop next month, May is shaping up nicely for Apple fans.
