AYN Technologies has introduced another option for the AYN LOKI, a gaming handheld that it announced last month. Initially, the company offered four models, ranging from the LOKI Mini to the LOKI Max. While the LOKI and LOKI Max come with AMD Ryzen 6000 APUs, AYN Technologies made AMD Mendocino APUs available for the LOKI Mini and the LOKI Mini Pro.
Incidentally, the latter could also be configured with the Pentium 8505, an Alder Lake-U series processor with 5 cores and 6 threads. Subsequently, AYN Technologies has elected to offer the Core i3-1215U, another processor based on Intel's Alder Lake platform. However, the Core i3-1215U contains 6 cores and 8 threads, as well as more L1, L2 and L3 cache. Both are 15 W processors that peak at 4.4 GHz, but the Core i3-1215U has an integrated GPU with more Execution Units (EUs) than the Pentium 8505.
As such, the LOKI Mini Pro should perform better in games when equipped with the Core i3-1215U than the Pentium 8505. It remains to be seen how either processor will compare against Mendocino APUs though, which feature Zen 2 CPU and RDNA 2 GPU cores. Regardless, the Core i3-1215U SKU also features a larger battery and up to 16 GB of RAM. Specifically, the model will be orderable in the following configurations. Please note that both models feature the same 6-inch and 1080p display as other LOKI models.
- 8 GB of RAM/128 GB SSD/46.2 Wh battery - US$349
- 16 GB of RAM/128 GB SSD/46.2 Wh battery - US$389
