New AMD Hawk Point APU makes official debut in Lenovo Xiaoxin laptops

AMD Strix Point processors are now official, but it seems that AMD isn't done with the Hawk Point lineup. A few days back, a reputable Weibo tipster, Golden Pig Upgrade, reported that the company would be launching a new Ryzen 8040 series APU, the Ryzen 7 8745H.

It was said to offer a similar performance as the Ryzen 7 8845HS but wouldn't feature the XDNA NPU. While the tipster was correct about the model name, the specs aren't identical. The Ryzen 7 8745H has now made its debut in a Lenovo Xiaoxin laptop, and according to the specs shared, the new Hawk Point APU is actually a cut-down variant of the 8845HS processor.

More specifically, the boost clock of the Ryzen 7 8745H on the Lenovo laptop is at 4.9 GHz, 200 MHz lower than the 8845HS. The Radeon 780M iGPU clock speed has also seen a downgrade, from 2.7 GHz on the 8845HS to 2.6 Hz on the new one. However, Golden Pig Upgrade did get the part of the new CPU not having an AMD XDNA NPU correct.

As the Ryzen 7 8745H doesn't have an NPU, Lenovo isn't marketing it with the "Ryzen AI" term. Another thing worth mentioning is that this new Hawk Point APU might be exclusive to the Chinese market. This would be nothing new for AMD, though. The company has even released China-exclusive desktop CPUs recently.

When it comes to the price, the fact that the Ryzen 7 8745H is a cut-down version of the Ryzen 7 8845HS should make it a tad more affordable (GMKtec K8 with 32 GB RAM and 1 TB storage curr $799.97 on Amazon). However, Lenovo currently doesn't have identical memory configurations for the Xiaoxin laptops with the two APUs, so a direct comparison is not possible.
