New $39 "made in Japan" back for iPhone eliminates the camera bump; changes Apple's rear design

If you are tired of the iPhone 17 Pro’s protruding camera bump but hate bulky cases, the Japanese company Mynus might have the right accessory for you. It’s the just-released, minimalist Mynus magnetic back for iPhone 17 Pro, which the company insists is not a "case".
Mynus iPhone 17 Pro back features:
- Design: The 32g back uses Mynus' "aesthetics of subtraction" philosophy to create a completely flat look; attaches via neodymium magnets and a reusable micro-suction sheet
- Ergonomics and functionality : A wedge-shaped design (thicker at the top) claims to improve your grip while leaving the phone's original aluminum unibody and buttons exposed; the flat profile prevents desk wobble.
- Protection: The back protects the camera lenses and rear glass from surface scratches
- Colors: The back is available in four variants; Rubber Black, Orange, Navy (soft-touch), and Sand White (sandstone-like).
- The Mynus back for iPhone 17 Pro starts at $39/€34/£29.
The Mynus back for iPhone 17 Pro eliminates the camera bump and makes Apple's flagship completely flat
What’s interesting is that Mynus claims that the iPhone 17 Pro will remain fully MagSafe and Qi charging compatible when the back is installed. That said, the company explicitly notes this is not a traditional protective case as it doesn’t offer drop protection and does not guarantee full compatibility with all device functions (whatever that means).
The company is preparing to launch the same accessory for the super-thin iPhone Air by June. While international shipping seems to be available, the Japan-based accessory maker warns that buyers should be aware that additional duties and taxes may apply depending on the shipping destination.
All in all, this seems to be one of the most unique iPhone accessories we’ve seen in a while as it offers a complete design overhaul for one of the most popular phones in the world. On top of that, the fact that using the back means you eliminate the massive camera bump of the iPhone 17 Pro, and the phone sits flat on a table, makes the design functional.
Of course, we don’t know how well the Mynus back works in real-world use, so take the features the company is advertising with a grain of salt.
