The RTX 2080 Ti has been modded to support 22 GB of VRAM. NVIDIA's former flagship card comes with 11 GB of VRAM as standard, but the company left in the ability for it to use double its default capacity.

VIK-On has demonstrated that the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti supports 22 GB of VRAM. By default, the Turing-based card comes with 11 GB of VRAM, supplied by Micron. However, VIK-On discovered that the strap mod used on other NVIDIA RTX cards, including the RTX 3070, works on the RTX 2080 Ti.

Unfortunately, VIK-On was unable to purchase the 16 Gbit modules required to get an RTX 2080 Ti running with 22 GB of VRAM. Nonetheless, the modder has shown that the strap mod tricks the card's BIOS into reporting that it supports 22 GB. Theoretically then, the RTX 2080 Ti should be capable of running with double its stock VRAM, just as the RTX 3070 is.

Hence, we would consider this a proof of concept until someone manages to get their hands on 16 GBit modules. If you are interested in seeing how VIK-On performed the mod, or the process for replacing the GPU and VRAM modules, then you can do so via the embedded below. Please note that VIK-On speaks Russian and that there are no English subtitles.
