Previously, we reported that the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti would hit shelves on May 26. The latest reports from Videocardz and Overclocking.com tell us a story we've heard far too often; the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti's launch date has been postponed yet again. Multiple sources familiar with the matter suggest that Nvidia will announce the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti on May 31.
However, that won't be the only graphics card unveiled that day. Nvidia will also launch its mysterious younger sibling, the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti, at the same time. The 3070 Ti is tipped to come in two flavours, one with 8GB of VRAM and the other with 16GB. The review embargo for the RTX 3080 Ti will expire on June 2. On the other hand, the RTX 3070 Ti will remain under wraps until June 9. There is no word about when either card will go on sale, though.
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti's place in the Ampere lineup is justified as an intermediate between the RTX 3080 and RTX 3090. At MSRP, the price gap between the RTX 3080 (US$699) and RTX 3090 (US$1,499) is quite significant. This creates ample room for a ~US$1,000 SKU, though the RTX 3080 Ti is expected to retail at around US$1,100. While the price difference between the RTX 3070 and RTX 3080 isn't as significant, the GDDR6X VRAM and 6,144 CUDA cores on the RTX 3070 Ti should be enough to set it apart from its non-Ti sibling.
That being said, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 3070 Ti's release date couldn't come at a worse time. Then again, we haven't heard a peep from Nvidia about the graphics cards yet. However, we have ample evidence suggesting that the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti is real. Nvidia will have to launch it at some point, though it'd be better off delaying the launch until 2022 and focus its efforts on making more of its existing SKUs instead.
