Murena Volla tablet promises privacy thanks to /e/OS and open-source apps

The Murena Volla tablet is identical in design to last year’s Volla tablet, but Murena’s version ships with /e/OS based on Android 14 instead of Volla OS or Ubuntu Touch. The OS focuses on data privacy and protection, which means that Google services have been removed from the system along with cloud services that collect user data.
Most of the apps included with /e/OS are open source, and the /e/OS App Directory can be used to download and install many regular third-party Android apps. The App Directory rates each app with a privacy score from 0 to 10 points. However, the hardware specifications are rather modest, especially considering that the Murena Volla tablet costs more than the iPad Air (from $489 on Amazon).
The tablet is powered by the rather old MediaTek Helio G99, which is paired with 12GB RAM and 512GB of storage. The 12.6-inch IPS panel has a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels, while the battery has a capacity of 10,000mAh. Additionally, the tablet has a 5MP selfie camera and a 13MP main camera. However, the Volla tablet does not sport a fingerprint sensor, but an LTE modem with a nano SIM slot is on board.
Price and availability
The Murena Volla tablet is available now for $798 at the manufacturer’s online store. The stylus costs an additional $59. Buyers should not that a charger or cable are not included in the box.
