Motorola has shown no sign to race to beat others to a launch for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in a new Android flagship smartphone (as it did with the previous generation), even following the postponement of some analogous events.
Instead, the OEM has taken the more unexpected route of touting its top-end contender as the "SUV" of smartphones, presumably indicating that the upcoming Moto X40 will be powerful and versatile enough to take on the most active lifestyle out of the box.
To this end, Motorola has confirmed that its 4,600mAh battery will drop the 68W wired charging tech of its Edge X30 predecessor for the upgraded 125W profile of the X30 Pro (or Edge 30 Ultra for the international market)
The OEM has kept to its new theme by also announcing Horizon Lock for the X40 in advance. This more typically action-cam-sounding feature is rated to let the user take photos in portrait mode regardless of the angle at which the smartphone is being held.
Motorola has yet to detail the rear cameras to support this feature, however. These specs apply to the Chinese version of the flagship that is to launch in about 3 days from now (December 12, 2022), although they have a good chance of also being available in its global counterpart, thought to launch as the Edge 40 Pro in 2023.
