When we reviewed the 2023 Dell G15 (5530) with an RTX 4060 laptop GPU and a Core i7-13650HX, we gave the machine a “good” rating of 84% and called it “an affordable alternative to its Alienware brethren”. As such, If you are a gamer who doesn’t want or can’t afford the price tag of Alienware machines, the Dell G15 (5535), which is essentially the same machine as the G15 5530 but with a different CPU, should satisfy your needs rather well, especially at its currently discounted price of only $849.99.
The latest Dell G15 price, which is a commendable 23% off the $1,099.99 list rate, can be dropped even further, as new customers can get an additional 10% off if they sign up with Dell (via slickdeals).
Although our review model, the G15 5530, equipped a Core i7-13650HX, the rest of the hardware was similar to the model on sale with 16 GB of RAM and a 165 Hz FHD display. So, the conclusions drawn for the gaming performance of the laptop and display quality should translate rather nicely.
Starting with the display, the 15-inch FHD panel with a 165 Hz refresh rate and NVIDIA G-SYNC delivered short response times, 98% coverage of the sRGB gamut, and an average brightness of 316 nits. Additionally, the display also exhibited a good contrast ratio of 1,524:1 and 94% brightness distribution.
On the performance front, the Dell G15 managed smooth FHD gaming at high/ultra graphics thanks to a combination of the Core i7-13650HX and RTX 4060 (Buy the desktop variant on Amazon). For instance, the Dell G15 played Cyberpunk 2077 at 80 FPS at FHD/ultra. Since the Ryzen 7 7840HS is in the same league as the Core i7-13650HX, the gaming performance of our Dell G15 review model should be indicative of the variant on sale.
Finally, despite being a powerful gaming laptop, the Dell G15 lasted a respectable 6.5 hours in our Wi-Fi websurfing test. So, you can expect similar runtimes from the G15 5535 on sale.
