Microsoft has launched a 5G version of the Surface Laptop (7th Edition), although it is simply calling it the Surface Laptop 5G. The new laptop is actually a 5G version of the 13.8-inch Surface Laptop for Business powered by Intel's Ultra Processor (Series 2).
The Surface Laptop 5G has been equipped with a 5G modem, an eSIM module, and a physical nano SIM card slot on the right side. According to Microsoft's press release, the Surface Laptop 5G has a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) that delivers 40+ trillion operations per second (TOPS) for fast, on-device intelligence.
Microsoft has also revealed that the Surface Laptop 5G features a dynamic antenna system made up of six strategically placed antennas that automatically adjust signal paths and power based on how the laptop is being held or used. This ensures a stable and reliable connection. In addition, the laptop will also be able to seamlessly switch between Wi-Fi networks and 5G and also serve as a mobile hotspot that other devices can connect to.
The Surface Laptop 5G will have a starting price of $1799.99, $300 more than the non-5G model that was released in February. This price gets you an Intel Core Ultra 5, 16GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. There'll also be a $2,699.99 version with an Intel Core Ultra 7, 32GB RAM, and a 1TB SSD. Microsoft will only offer the laptop in Platinum Silver when it begins shipping on August 26.
Microsoft has not revealed plans of a 5G version of the Surface Laptop 7 powered by Snapdragon processors (Snapdragon X Plus 16GB +256GB available on Amazon for $840).
