Recently we reported about 2021’s Microsoft Surface Laptop appearing on Geekbench with an AMD Ryzen processor that could indicate that the Surface Laptop 4 will arrive with either Ryzen 4000 or Ryzen 5000 chip options. Now another Surface Laptop-related Geekbench listing has turned up, but this time around it’s an Intel Core i5-1135G7 at the heart of the device. While the multi-core result was hardly spectacular, the single-core result is promising for a business-focused machine like the Surface Laptop.
The Surface Laptop 4 Geekbench 5 listing shows the 4-core, 8-thread Intel Core i5-1135G7 operating from 2.42 GHz to 4.2 GHz and joined by 8 GB RAM. The multi-core score was 5,214 points (unsurprisingly lower than the 6-core Ryzen example mentioned above) and the single-core benchmark score was a healthy 1,384 points. We have achieved similar scores with the i5-1135G7 in tests with various devices, such as the Dell Inspiron 15 7505 2-in-1 and Lenovo Yoga 7 14, while it can go even higher in laptops like the Schenker XMG Core 14.
Microsoft currently offers the Surface Laptop 3 with either an i5-1035G7 processor or i7-1065G7. Now it seems the Surface Laptop 4 will be moving on to Intel’s 11th Gen series it is probable that a more powerful option will also join this i5-1135G7 model, likely in the form of an i7-1165G7 variant. If Microsoft also goes with Ryzen 4000/5000 options for the Surface Laptop 4 then shoppers will get the best of both worlds in terms of processor choice.
