Reviews for the Microsoft Surface Laptop 2

Overall, the Surface Laptop 2 is an easy laptop to fall for. It offers great styling, a good display, and the Surface touches such as a touch display, great keyboard, and great design. Some people won’t be able to live with a single USB port though, and that decision will knock this laptop out of consideration for those users. But if you don’t need a lot of connectivity, the Surface Laptop 2 is a fantastic device and worthy of consideration. The pricing is generally $100 more than the equivilent Surface Pro though, and that price gap expands significantly at the top end of the range to $400 more for the Surface Laptop for a 1TB Core i7 with 16 GB of RAM. That's a steep price hike over the Surface Pro 6, and is possibly why Microsoft sells far more Surface Pros than anything else in their lineup.

Much the same as the original, Microsoft's Surface Laptop 2 remains a sleek ultraportable with a top-notch build, a stellar screen, and a very long-lasting battery. Add a port or two, and it would be a superstar.

With sterling performance, a gorgeous design and sleek dimensions, Microsoft’s Surface Laptop 2 is everything the new MacBook Air should have been. It’s only a somewhat lacklustre battery life and the absence of a USB-C port that keep it from a perfect score.

Microsoft designed the original Surface Laptop for a student on the go: an affordable, pleasing notebook with moderate performance but killer battery life. Microsoft hewed to the same goal with the Surface Laptop 2.

We were disappointed, though, that the battery ran out after playing video for just over seven hours – 50 per cent less than before. You’d get more battery life in basic tasks, less with heavy work and Wi-Fi. The final change is that you get Windows 10 Home, not the restricted Windows 10 S, which is welcome.

An excellent display, long-lasting battery, comfortable keyboard, and fetching design mean the Surface Laptop 2 is a high performer for everyday use. It's not cheap though.

The Surface Laptop 2 is one of the best premium ultraportables out there. Just like its predecessor it's gorgeous to look at and incredibly well built. Only this time it comes with full Windows 10 off the bat, plus more power than before. The biggest downside is the lack of USB-C, otherwise it's near perfect.

The Surface Laptop 2 is an elegant 13.5-inch touch-screen laptop. This year's model offers two notable perks: modern 8th-Gen Intel processors and a slick black color (though you need to spend more for it). Its sluggish SSD and lack of Type-C ports are my only knocks against this laptop. Still, the Surface Laptop 2 presents a beautifully clean vision for the PC, and this update allows it to keep up with our other favorite ultraportable laptops.

Microsoft didn’t just up the style game on the Surface Laptop 2 -- it brought the heat in performance and battery life as well. The speed and battery improvements aren’t as huge as promised, but they’re still significant. A comfortable keyboard, responsive trackpad and brilliant display bring the whole package together nicely. All told, this is one of the best notebooks of the year.

Microsoft’s Surface Laptop 2 is, from top to bottom, a worthy sequel to the original device. This new model vastly improves the laptop’s power profile and, while it doesn't include tangible design changes, it ultimately achieves the most pure Windows 10 experience on a laptop.

Sleek and speedy with a stunning screen, the Surface Laptop 2 continues Microsoft's tradition of hardware excellence. If only its port selection were stronger, its storage more affordable and Microsoft didn't place its black colorway at a pricier tier.

The Surface Laptop 2 is far from a revolutionary sequel, but it changes just enough to retain all the accolades we heaped upon it last year.

But I can’t call it the best laptop overall right now, because there are other options with better performance, just as sleek designs, and more modern port selections. The Surface Laptop certainly wasn’t broken, but Microsoft could have done a little more to improve the Surface Laptop 2.

Intel UHD Graphics 620: Integrated GPU (GT2, 24 EUs) found on some Kaby-Lake-Refresh CPU models (15 W ULV series). Technically identical to the previous Kaby-Lake GPU called HD Graphics 620.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

i5-8250U: Kaby-Lake-Refresh based low power quad-core processor. The four cores are clocked between 1.6 and 3.4 GHz (Turbo Boost) and support HyperThreading. The integrated GPU is clocked between 300 and 1,100 MHz. The SoC is manufactured in a 14nm+ FinFET process. » Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

There are hardly any tablets in this display size range anymore. For subnotebooks, on the other hand, it is the standard format.
The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small and therefore easily portable. The smaller display also has the advantage of requiring less power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is more strenuous on the eyes. High resolutions are more likely to be found in standard laptops.

Microsoft smartphones and tablets have been tested since 2012. There are many reviews with average ratings. The reader's interest is quite given, but the market share is not big enough for the Top 5 smartphone manufacturers (as of 2016).
82.8%: This rating is slightly above average, there are somewhat more devices with worse ratings. However, clear purchase recommendations look different.
