Meet Eve V, the crowdfunded Surface killer with high-end specs
The Eve V was designed by the Eve community to be a better and cheaper alternative to the successful Surface Pro 4 by Microsoft. Like the Microsoft 2-in-1, the Eve V is based on a 12,3 inch display with 3:2 format and the same 2,736 x 1,824 resolution, but Eve is planning to choose an IGZO panel that will be better readable in direct sunlight. The specifications reveal a Kaby Lake processor and a much wider array of ports. The Eve community decided to integrate a Thunderbolt 3 port, a regular USB 3.1 Type-C port as well as two standard USB 3.1 Type-A ports.
The project also plans to offer a Windows Hello compatible fingerprint sensor on the power button. An LTE version might be released at a later time, since the aluminum unibody design of the current version won't allow for easy LTE integration at this point in time. What sets this project apart from others is the community effort behind it. The plan to eliminate the middle man and sell directly from the factory will allow for cheaper prices according to the people behind the project.
While pricing has not been finalized yet, we expect $900 for the base model and less than $1,800 for the maxed out version with Intel Core-i7 processor, 16 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD. Currently Eve is planning to start a crowdfunding campaign on November 21st. Initial pricing for early supporters will be finalized by then.
