MediaTek has unveiled a new 5G platform for premium phones - well, sort of. This Dimensity 1000+ (or 1000 Plus) has the same make-up as the current 1000 SoC. However, this refreshed version boasts a number of features intended to further enhance its potential flagship game.

MediaTek has done a Qualcomm in launching a Plus variant of its fastest and most powerful mobile SoC. This new Dimensity 1000+ has the same 4x Cortex-A77/4x Cortex-A55/Mali-G77 MP9 GPU conformation as the original 1000 flagship, while still supporting up to quad-channel LPDDR4X memory; however, it is described as packed with new features on top of that.

They include a new version of this OEM's HyperEngine technology. This one (v2.0) optimizes every determinant of speed for the Dimensity 1000+ - its CPU, GPU, RAM, Bluetooth and mobile data included. On that note, the 1000+ also offers MediaTek 5G UltraSave. This new spec is rated to conserve battery while using the chipset's in-built New Radio (5G-NR) modem by up to 32%.

It also allows this modem to aggregate 2 incoming sub-6GHz radio links for up to 4.7Gbps downlink and 2.5Gbps uplink speeds. The 1000+ also now supports Voice over NR - or Vo5G, in other words. These improvements have already been compelling enough to have the smartphone brand iQOO take the refresh up in building a new premium phone.

This upcoming device may feature the chipset's maximal display refresh rate of 144Hz (especially good news for the Neo3, then). It will also feature the new MiraVision Picture Quality Engine, which apparently upscales SDR video data to HDR. However, neither MediaTek nor iQOO mentioned a launch date for this inaugural Dimensity 1000+ phone.
