MediaTek's new Googlebook chip skips Lumex for old Cortex cores

MediaTek has announced the Dimensity CX C10 Max, the first member of its new Dimensity Compute Experiences family of laptop processors. The chip is destined for upcoming premium Googlebook laptops announced recently, and it will compete with Intel Panther Lake and Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Elite SKUs. It is manufactured on a second-generation TSMC 3 nm process (likely N3E) and uses MediaTek’s time-tested  "All Big Core" CPU design. Its eight cores include one Cortex-X925 clocked at up to 3.73 GHz, three Cortex-X4 cores, and four Cortex-A720 cores. MediaTek complements those with 12 MB of L3 cache and 10 MB of system-level cache. It supports LPDDR5X memory running at up to 9,600 Mbps and UFS 4.0 storage.

The Dimensity CX C10 Max comes with an 11-core Arm Immortalis-G925 GPU and MediaTek's NPU 890, rated for up to 55 TOPS of dense AI performance. MediaTek says the NPU can keep on-device Gemini features and AI agents running continuously while minimising power consumption. The SoC also supports internal displays up to 4K60 alongside two external 4K monitors, plus hardware decoding of 10-bit AV1, HEVC, AVC and VP9 video at up to 4K60. An Imagiq 1090 ISP handles cameras up to 32 MP, with electronic stabilisation, HDR video and automatic zoom intended primarily for video conferencing. It also supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth connectivity.

That CPU configuration is perhaps the strangest part of the announcement. The CX C10 Max is being introduced as MediaTek's flagship processor for a new generation of premium Googlebooks in late 2026, but it does not use Arm's newer C2 CPU, or even the older Lumex C1 architectures. 

Instead, the Cortex-X925 dates back to Arm's 2024 generation, while the Cortex-X4 and Cortex-A720 were introduced a year earlier in 2023. Furthermore, anyone familiar with MediaTek's recent smartphone silicon will recognise the CX C10 Max immediately. The same 1x Cortex-X925 + 3x Cortex-X4 + 4x Cortex-A720 CPU arrangement appeared in the Dimensity 9400 in 2024. The later Dimensity 9400+ pushed the Cortex-X925 to the same 3.73 GHz frequency now advertised for the CX C10 Max.

A closer relative exists in the laptop world. MediaTek's Kompanio Ultra 910, introduced for premium Chromebook Plus machines in 2025, uses the same eight CPU cores, the same 12 MB L3 and 10 MB SLC arrangement, an Immortalis-G925 MC11 GPU and the same NPU 890. The CX C10 Max raises the peak X925 clock from 3.62 GHz to 3.73 GHz, memory speed from 8,533 Mbps to 9,600 Mbps and advertised NPU performance from 50 TOPS to 55 TOPS. Essentially, the CX C10 Max looks more like an evolved Kompanio Ultra platform tailored for Googlebooks. 

MediaTek says the CX C10 Max has been designed for thin and potentially fanless laptops with all-day battery life. The company has not yet stated which exact Googlebook will debut the Dimensity CX C10 Max, although it describes the machine as a premium, ultra-portable model.
