MediaTek Dimensity 9400: Arm Immortalis-G925 GPU allegedly trounces Apple M4 in GFXBench
If recent Geekbench listings are anything to go by, MediaTek's Dimensity 9400 is dead last when it comes to CPU performance, with both the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and Apple A18/A18 Pro handily outperforming it. However, MediaTek could flip the script on the GPU side. If a recent leak from Digital Chat Station is accurate, its Arm Immortalis-G925 GPU trounces even Apple's best offerings.
It can supposedly run GFXBench's Aztec benchmark (1440p, offscreen, Vulkan) at 134 FPS. Its predecessor, the Dimensity 9300, scores 83 FPS in the same test, representing a 61% performance improvement. Even the Apple M4's 10-core GPU couldn't get past 110 FPS in the same test. This potentially sets the Dimensity 9400 up to be an absolute gaming powerhouse.
Of course, the test was probably conducted on a pre-production sample with a near-unlimited power budget. The Dimensity 9300 was plagued with bad thermals and the Dimensity 9400 will likely meet the same fate if MediaTek doesn't keep them in check. While MediaTek may have bested Apple, it still has to contend with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and the Exynos 2500, both of which are tipped to launch with powerful GPUs.
