Marvell has announced that its new controller is ideal for SSD storage intended to serve the needs of professional cloud services. It, according to this company, is an industry first in that it supports the emerging NVMe 1.4b and PCIe 5.0 standards, and are thus related to deliver double the performance compared to PCIe 4.0-based solutions.
The OEM also asserts that the Bravera SC5 SSD controllers are associated with up to 14GB/s of throughput, as well as up to 2 million random-read I/O operations per second (IOPS). They are also the first flash controllers to enable multiple usage models, including software-enabled flash (SEF), ZNS and Open Channel, thus allowing users to integrate it into existing hardware already on these models.
Bravera SC5s have also designed for compatibility with AES 256-bit encryption, root-of-trust (RoT) and multi-key revocation. They also pack Marvell's 5th generation NANDEdge LDPC error correction technology, which applies to 3D NAND QLC, TLC and SLC.
Thus far, companies such as AMD and Kioxia have indicated their intention to integrate Bravera SC5 SSD controllers with their EPYC and BiCS FLASH series of server-grade products respectively. Marvell has sent out samples of this new component out to customers such as these thus far.
