MSI Raider GE77 and GE67: High-end gaming laptops unveiled with new Intel Alder Lake-HX processors
MSI has refreshed its top-of-the-line gaming laptops with shiny new Intel Alder Lake-HX processors. The MSI Raider GE77 and GE67 are incremental upgrades over the Raider GE76 and GE66 unveiled at CES 2022, and hence are available in fewer configurations. Both laptops pack quite a lot of high-end hardware and are priced as such.
The MSI Raider GE77 and GE67 both employ an Intel Core i7-12800HX processor. GPU choices range between the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and GeForce RTX 3070 Ti. The combined power drawn by the CPU and GPU is 250 Watts, of which up to 75 Watts will be earmarked for the former and 175 Watts for the latter. This could lead to some bottlenecks, as the Alder Lake-HX processors are designed for performance over power efficiency.
For memory and storage, the MSI Raider GE77 and GE67 feature up to 32 GB of 4,800 MT/s DDR5 RAM and a 1TB PCI-e Gen4 NVMe SSD. Neither RAM slot is soldered, and users can upgrade it further to 64 GB. Both laptops have one Thunderbolt 4.0 port, one USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port, one USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A port, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, an RJ-45 Ethernet jack, an HDMI port and a 1080p webcam.
The primary difference between the MSI Raider GE77 and GE67 lies in their screen size and resolution. The Raider GE77 offers a 17.3-inch QHD IPS LCD panel with a refresh rate of 240 Hz, while the Raider GE67 scales that down to a 15-6-inch QHD OLED panel. Both cover 100% of the DCI-P3 colour spectrum and have a response time of 3 ms.
Other MSI Raider GE77 and GE67 features include Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 6E, a four-cell 99 Wh battery, two 2 Watt speakers tuned by Dynaudio, and a Steelseries keyboard with per-key RGB control. MSI also lets one play two games simultaneously, one on the laptop screen and the other on the TV with the included Console Mode.
Price and availability
The base MSI Raider GE67 variant with 16 GB RAM and a GeForce RTX 3070 Ti will retail at US$2,500, while the one with 32 GB of memory and a GeForce RTX 3080 Ti will cost US$3,400. Similarly, the MSI Raider GE77 will set you back by US$2,600 and US$3,550, for identical GPU/memory configurations, respectively. Both SKUs will be available for purchase in the coming days.
