Reviews for the MSI GE72-6QD161
Source: PC Mag

The MSI GE72 6QD Apache Pro is a pretty good gaming laptop overall, providing capable performance on a large screen at a reasonable price. It's not a powerhouse like more expensive laptops, but you know you're not buying a top-of-the-line system in this price range. The GE72 would make a much stronger case for itself with a 970M video card, especially given the $800 960M-equipped Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Series (7559). Though it will cost you more than $2,000, the MSI GT72 Dominator Pro G-1438 certainly provides much better performance on maximum settings, and so remains our Editors' Choice midrange gaming laptop.

The GE72 6QD Apache Pro is in a rather unique position as a gaming notebook, in the sense that it's one of the few budget-friendly large-screen models on the market. In contrast to the stereotypical 17.3-inch gaming notebook, loaded to the gills with an overkill GPU and CPU and priced accordingly, this configuration of the GE72 gives you the big-screen gaming experience without the $2,000-plus outlay.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M: Upper mid-range graphics card of the GeForce GTX 900M series.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
6700HQ: Skylake-based quad-core processor for notebooks. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 530 GPU and is manufactured in 14 nm.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.
