The MSI Cyborg 15 isn’t a spectacular machine, it wasn’t meant to be, not at this price. All it was meant to be is affordable, stylish, and deliver great performance. In that, it succeeds. The display could be brighter and more colorful, but the 144Hz refresh rate is much welcome. And while its battery life isn’t great, the Cyborg 15 doubles well as a productivity machine, for as long as you can keep it plugged in. Players with bigger budgets will find more impressive options available, including the Razer Blade 16 (Intel Core I9-14900HX, RTX 4080) or the MSI Raider GE68HX (Intel Core i9-13950HX, RTX 4060). MSI Cyborg 15 (A12V) review – there is so much power in its tiny 45W GPU

At the beginning of this review, we questioned MSI’s claims that this laptop is going to be groundbreaking and impressive. To be fair, the notebook is pretty good for what it is. The 45W RTX 4050 really can’t hold a candle to the 85W one of the MSI Katana 15. However, it is pretty good at games, and at this moment in time, when laptops with RTX 4000 are still young, the Cyborg 15 (A12V) does seem like a good purchase. MSI Cyborg 15 (A12V)’s IPS panel has a Full HD resolution, comfortable viewing angles, and a good contrast ratio. It doesn’t use PWM for brightness adjustment, but unfortunately, it covers only 54% of the sRGB color gamut. Also, its pixel response time is a bit slow, which doesn’t bode well with the fast refresh rate of 144Hz. Unfortunately, the battery life is not stellar. We got about 5 hours of Web browsing, or 4 hours and 30 minutes of video playback. After all, this is 2023 and gaming laptops are no longer sick of the limited battery life disease. On the bright side, the laptop offers two SODIMM slots for memory expansion.

MSI Cyborg 15 A13V review – A Refreshing Take on Affordable Gaming

Despite being a refresh compared to its predecessor, the MSI Cyborg 15 A13V is a good gaming laptop. The keyboard is comfortable for both typing and gaming and the audio quality is on point. The simple-looking cooling with just one fan is enough for almost 3.00 GHz P-core clock in prolonged sessions of 100% processor load. Moreover, the fan isn’t too loud in “Extreme Performance” mode which is a bit of a positive surprise. Of course, using the “Cooler Boost” function will ramp the fan speed to the max and the noise becomes almost unbearable. The GPU has zero problems maintaining the max official TGP limit of 45W in “Extreme Performance” or in “Balanced” mode. The 1080p IPS display (AUO B156HAN15.1 (AUOD0A2) is PWM-free which is good news for all users. Still, the color coverage is nothing to write home about but that’s okay since the laptop isn’t meant for content creation or professional color-sensitive work.

Battery life is never much to cheer about in a computer like this. I get barely two hours of runtime when playing demanding games, and maybe a full working day of surfing and emailing. But just maybe, with too much brightness and a little more load on the processor, the hours shrink. You charge the battery with a separate ISO connector, and then have a USB-C port for data or monitor, as well as two USB Type-A ports, all three with USB 3 Gen 1 speed. You also get fixed gigabit networking, if you don’t want to connect wirelessly. Its Wi-Fi 6 is fast and stable, but I miss the support for 6 GHz and Wi-Fi 6e that many of its competitors have. It’s not a single important thing enough to lower the rating, but the MSI Cyborg 15 accumulates a list of things that either make my time with the computer less enjoyable or limit what it’s good at. The exception is when I play games, when the power of the graphics card comes into its own. But a nicer screen would have been welcome even for that.

I had high hopes for the MSI Cyborg 15 AI. I knew it would be better at gaming than creative work, but I hadn't quite appreciated how much it would struggle with dedicated creative workflows. The battery life is also very poor. Its main saving grace is the innovative design alongside a top-notch build quality. Oh, and it's also on the more affordable side.

The MSI Cyborg 15 AI (B2RWEKG) isn’t trying to reinvent the gaming laptop, and that’s probably for the best. Instead, MSI has focused on building an affordable machine that ‘gets’ its audience. At R24,000, you aren’t exactly getting top-notch performance or a chassis that’ll embarrass more-premium ultrabooks, but you are getting a competent RTX 5050-powered laptop that can chew through esports titles, indies, and a fair chunk of modern AAA games — provided you’re willing to fiddle with the settings menu every now and then. It’s not without some concession. That 512GB is going to fill up alarmingly fast in 2026, the webcam feels like a bit of an afterthought, and the bezels aren’t doing MSI’s gamer any favours. Intel Meteor Lake-H:
Ultra 7 155H: A high-end Meteor Lake chip that debuted in December 2023. This 1st Gen Core Ultra processor has come to replace 13th generation Core chips; it has 16 cores (6 + 8 + 2) and 22 threads at its disposal. Its Performance cores, of which there are 6, run at up to 4.8 GHz while its Efficient cores, of which there are 10 (8 main cores plus 2 extra ones found in the Low Power Island) run at up to 3.8 GHz. The integrated AI Boost NPU offers two Gen 3 engines for hardware AI workload acceleration. This laptop processor's Base power consumption is 28 W while its Turbo power consumption is supposed to stay within 115 W.
