MINISFORUM UM250: A Ryzen 5 powered mini-PC that costs US$299
MINISFORUM sells multiple mini-PCs based on AMD Ryzen APUs, including the UM250. The UM250 has an AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 2500U APU, which is not the newest chipset on the market. However, it still provides four cores, an integrated Radeon RX Vega 8 GPU and a peak clock speed of 3.6 GHz. The chip also works with up to DDR4 RAM running at 2,500 MHz and can output video in up to 4K at 60 Hz.
The 128 x 127 x 46 mm machine has three video outputs, with MINISFORUM equipping it with an HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort and USB Type-C ports. The UM250 has three USB 3.1 Type-A ports too, in addition to two Gigabit Ethernet ports and a pre-installed M.2 2230 Wi-Fi card that supports Bluetooth 5.1 and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity.
Meanwhile, the UM250 has a 2.5-inch drive bay for HDDs or SSDs, along with an M.2 2280 slot for up to 2 TB drives. Most of the ports on the UM250 are, unsurprisingly, on its back panel. There are quite a few on the front though, including its USB Type-C connection.
Currently, MINISFORUM sells the UM250 on its website in four SKUs. The cheapest, priced at US$299, does not include any RAM or storage, but this does allow you to equip it with up to 32 GB of RAM and a 2 TB SSD. Alternatively, MINISFORUM offers the UM250 with up to 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD, but the company charges US$479 for the privilege. Additionally, AliExpress sells the UM250 from US$379.99, for which it bundles 8 GB of RAM and a 128 GB SSD.
