Amazon is currently running a sale on the 13.3-inch Samsung Galaxy Book Ion laptop for $800 USD down from its original launch price of $1200. The laptop is notable for being one of the first in its category to come with a QLED display instead of the usual IPS, TN, or OLED option.
Based on our time with a review unit, users are likely going to love the aesthetic design, light weight, and bright QLED display of the Samsung. At almost 500 nits, the display is indeed brighter than most other subnotebooks for the price. The system includes Thunderbolt 3 support meaning its docking possibilities are almost endless.
Nonetheless, there are a few disadvantages to be wary of. Both CPU and graphics performance are weak and the internal fans tend to pulse frequently. RAM is also soldered meaning owners would be stuck with just 8 GB for the life of the unit. Our test unit suffered from noticeable edge bleeding along the corners as well.
For $800 USD, however, the Galaxy Book Ion is one of the better alternatives to the older 16:9 Dell XPS 13 series. See our full review on the laptop here.
