LineageOS leaves two-dozen devices adrift by ending Android 9.0 Pie support
LineageOS remains one of the most popular custom ROMs around, not least because of the near-stock Android experience that it offers. The custom ROM has also brought some older devices onto newer versions of Android, filling the vacuum left by OEMs who abandon their devices quickly after releasing them.
LineageOS does not support older versions of Android indefinitely, though. According to an update on GitHub, LineageOS has ceased supporting version 16.0 of its OS, which is based on Android 9.0 Pie. While LineageOS 16.0 ROMs will continue to work, devices running this OS will no longer receive any updates, even security patch ones.
Ultimately, LineageOS does not charge for its work, so we have few complaints here. Nonetheless, it is a pity that some smartphones and tablets are now without LineageOS support, too. The 24 devices that LineageOS has dropped is as follows:
- ASUS Zenfone 3
- ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M1
- ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M2
- BQ Aquaris X2
