Amazon Fire HD 8 (2018) is still available for purchase and runs Android 7.1 Nougat-based Fire OS 6, but is supposed to get Android 9 Pie-based Fire OS 7 firmware one of these days. However, it almost certain that Amazon will not push Android 10 to this slate, but those who want to get Google's latest Android release on this piece of hardware can do it thanks to LineageOS 17.1.
Unfortunately, this third-party ROM — maintained by XDA Developers member Kaijones23 — is not flawless yet. Although the project is being actively developed and those eager enough to try it can do so without having to comply with any outrageous requirements (unlocked tablets with TWRP installed, nothing more), there are a few noticeable problems with it as reported by some of its users. The list of problems includes freezes that require a forced restart, problems when connecting to Bluetooth headphones, slow boot, and more.
The Android 10-based LineageOS 17.1 firmware for the Fire HD 8 (2018) does not work on the 2016 variant of the tablet and it is not compatible with the Lenovo Tab3 that has the same processor, either. Most users should probably wait for Amazon to release Fire OS 7 for this tablet, but if you happen to be one of the adventurous ones who managed to get LineageOS 17.1 up and running on it, feel free to drop a comment and let us know about your experience.
