With Xiaomi all set to unveil its in-house Xring chip later this year, Lenovo doesn't want to fall too far behind. The OEM plans to show off its own in-house offering called SS1101 soon, and it will likely do so with the next Yoga Pad Pro 14.5. This information comes from Digital Chat Station, a well-known Weibo leaker.
It packs a ten-core CPU that is divided into clusters of 2 + 2 + 3 + 3. The first one boosts up to 3.2 GHz, second to 1.9 GHz, third to 2.8 GHz and fourth to 1.7 GHz. There's a chance that it could be an eight-core CPU with two cores supporting hyperthreading, because we've seen that before with Huawei's Kirin chips.
Unfortunately, the types of Arm cores being used are unknown, but one can reasonably assume they're older models. The SS1101 appears to be running an off-the-shelf Arm Immortalis-G720 GPU found on the MediaTek Dimensity 9300 and Dimensity 9300+.
Digital Chat Station adds this could be a 5 nm chip. Another X leaker, @Olrak29_, opines this could be made by TSMC, but there's a high chance of it being Samsung because TSMC might not have enough capacity left on its last-gen nodes. If the former is true, it should perform on par with last-gen SoCs like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. While it might suffer from teething issues initially, some experience and access to cutting-edge nodes could put Lenovo on par with industry behemoths.
