Lenovo partners with BIWIN to bring company’s first SSD series
BIWIN, a manufacturer that’s well-known for producing memory and storage products for Acer and HP, has partnered with Lenovo. This partnership will bring Lenovo’s first-ever SSD lineup. But don’t expect the drives from the lineup to match the speeds of leading PCIe 5.0 solid state drives (Corsair 2 TB PCIe Gen5 curr. $259.99 on Amazon).
Instead, the first Lenovo SSD series will include four products, including PCIe 4, PCIe 3, SATA III or SATA 6 Gb/s, and portable drives. While the first lineup doesn’t have USB4 and PCIe Gen5 storage solutions, they are likely planned for the second lineup.
As for the specifics, the high-end option is the Lenovo LN960 SSD. It’s an M.2 2280 Gen 4.0 drive that will be available in capacities of up to 4 TB. The drive has a graphene-based heat spreader and can reach a sequential read speed of up to 7.4 GB/s.
Next is the Lenovo LN860 Gen3 SSD, which maxes out at 2 TB and is an entry-level NVMe drive of the lineup. It can offer a sequential read speed of up to 3.5 GB/s.
Then, there’s the Lenovo LS800, a SATA III solid-state drive that’s geared for those running an old machine. This 2.5-inch SLC SSD can offer up to 520 MB/s of sequential read speed and tops out at 1.92 TB in capacity.
The last product in Lenovo’s first storage lineup is a portable storage solution called the LP600. It utilizes the USB 3.2 standard and will come with up to 4 TB of capacity. This drive can offer up to 2 GB/s of read/write speeds.
There’s no word on availability and pricing for the brand-new SSDs or the portable drive. However, the pricing will likely be very competitive as BIWIN and Lenovo are involved.
