UGreen CM550 and C525: External SSD enclosures with and without USB hub now available
UGreen is offering two new external SSDs enclosures, namely the CM550 and CM525 models. The CM525 consists solely of the housing, which can accommodate SSDs in M.2 2280, M.2 2260, M.2 2242 and M.2 2230 format. Both PCIe SSDs and SATA SSDs are supported. A USB-C port is on board, which complies with the USB 3.2 Gen 2 standard, allowing a maximum data transfer rate of 10 GBit/s. RGB lighting is available, and there is also sufficient cooling for the installed SDD; although a fan is not available, the aluminum housing should be able to dissipate the waste heat appropriately.
The UGreen CM550 is basically a similar product, but with an extended range of functions. The 120.7 x 54.4 millimeter large and 15.4 millimeter thick enclosure not only has space for an M.2 SSD up to M.2 2280 format, but also a total of four USB ports. One of the two USB-C ports can be used to connect the UGreen CM550 to a terminal device. The additional USB-C and USB-A ports turn the UGreen CM550 into a USB hub, allowing accessories or additional storage devices to be connected without blocking additional USB ports on the host PC, which is particularly useful on notebooks with few ports.
Direct imports of the UGreen CM550 are priced at $62.99, while the CM525 enclosure costs just under $66. Shipping is free for the USA, but buyers there should expect long shipping times.
