the 14-inch ThinkBook exhibited a high degree of energy efficiency and durable casing in our test. Despite its small battery, this laptop featuring a Ryzen 5 processor from the Barcelo series lasts a long time. That makes this laptop a great companion.

Lenovo ThinkBook 14 Gen 4’s IPS panel has a Full HD resolution, comfortable viewing angles, and a very good contrast ratio. The color coverage is quite limited (53% of sRGB), which makes the image look a bit dull. However, the backlight doesn’t use PWM for brightness adjustment. This results in a comfortable viewing experience at every brightness level. Unfortunately, the battery life is not good. At least with the smaller 45Wh package. We got 5 hours and 30 minutes of either Web browsing, or video playback. This is nearly a two-hour decrease compared to last year. Now, we can’t pass up the opportunity to mention the performance. It is not bad, but at the same time, could have been a lot better. With laptops like this one, you mostly rely on short-burst loads, where high clock speeds are pretty much essential. Yes, the device is chewing through every daily task you can think of, but you can never have even more speed, right? One thing that could have not even wished to be better is the port selection. You get plenty of USBs, one of which is a Thunderbolt 4 port. Add a LAN port, an HDMI connector, and an SD card reader, and you get all of the MacBook users in the office to envy you badly. Overall, what is really important in our view, is that the ThinkBook 14 Gen 4 is really comfortable to use. Its keyboard is spill-resistant and is a breeze, the display doesn’t strain your eyes excessively, and there is very little fan noise and heat coming from it. We think that it is a great addition to your workflow… provided you don’t need long battery life.

The 2-in-1 convertible laptop is a tricky product. Not only does it need good performance and battery life, but it also needs a high-quality display to justify its convertible nature. And while the ThinkBook 14 2-in-1 Gen 4 has a nicely vibrant display, the brightness isn’t up to our expectations. The ThinkBook 14 2-in-1 has excellent battery life and solid Intel Core Ultra 5 125U performance, so it meets the minimum criteria for a good business laptop.

The Lenovo ThinkBook 14 2-in-1 Gen 4 may not catch too many eyes with its looks but its specifications and feature set points towards a machine that could be a dream for hybrid workers. The versatility of this device being a 2-in-1 and coming with a handy stylus too make it all the more interesting for productivity and creative workloads. This laptop is set to debut in May 2024, with a competitive starting price of €1,099. No word on UK and US pricing at the time of writing.

The ThinkBook 14 2-in-1 G4 is a no-frills convertible spruced up with Intel's latest 14th gen Meteor Lake CPUs. It's comfortable, travel-friendly and easy to use, but graphics performance is a little slow relative to the $1200 asking price.

It’s hard to find any major cons regarding the Lenovo ThinkBook 14 2-in-1 Gen 4. It’s a solid aluminum transformer with a smooth 360°C hinge and a premium to-the-touch build. The keyboard is suitable for work and the same can be said about the accurate touchpad. The comfort during max loads is great. The top side of the main body doesn’t get hot and the fan isn’t noisy. At the same time, the P and E cores of the Core Ultra 5 125U boost to around 2.75 GHz / 2.20 GHz which is a good result for a small 2-in-1 laptop. The 1200p IPS touchscreen (LEN140WUXGA (LEN81A2)) impresses with 97% sRGB coverage, wide viewing angles, and a lack of PWM usage. The color accuracy went from zero to hero with the aid of our “Design and Gaming” profile because it reached an average dE score of 1.2.

Given that it costs hundreds less than similarly configured ThinkPads, the ThinkBook 14 2-in-1 Gen 4 offers good value despite its shortcomings. And its value will only increase if you plan to take advantage of its upgradeability to add more RAM or a second SSD to extend its lifespan. Plus, with its rugged build, the ThinkBook 14 2-in-1 Gen 4 ought to hold up for years and years.

Lenovo’s latest ThinkBook is sleek, sturdy, and a delight to carry around. The 2-in-1 design lets you reorient the machine to make better use of the touchscreen display, and I appreciate that Lenovo includes the Slim Pen even if Windows 11 isn’t always great at stylus input. It’s not the fastest computer you can buy, but it’s more than good enough for browsing, writing, spreadsheets, video, and anything else you’re likely to do at work. You should have no problem getting in a full workday with the Lenovo ThinkBook 14 2-in-1 Gen 4, even if you forget the charger at home. If you do somehow manage to drain the battery, you can recharge with almost any USB-C plug, possibly even the one you use for your phone if it supplies enough power.

The Lenovo ThinkBook 14 2-in-1 Gen 4 is a few ounces heavier and its screen a shade duller than ideal, but it delivers superb build quality, an excellent keyboard, and plenty of ports for a low price. This ThinkBook earns our Editors' Choice award as a winning small-office or home-office convertible.

The Lenovo ThinkBook 14 2-in-1 G4 may differ from the flashiest or lightest convertible. Still, it delivers where it counts—reliable performance, excellent build quality, and a versatile design at a price that makes it accessible for small businesses and professionals. While it could benefit from a brighter display and newer Wi-Fi standards, these are minor trade-offs for what is otherwise a solid and dependable work companion. Altogether, I have enjoyed using this computer.

Lenovo: Lenovo ("Le" from English legend, novo (Latin) for new) was founded in 1984 as a Chinese computer trading company. As of 2004, the company was the largest laptop manufacturer in China and, after acquiring IBM's PC division in 2005, the fourth largest in the world. In addition to desktops and notebooks, the company manufactures monitors, projectors, servers, etc, and specializes in developing, manufacturing and marketing consumer electronics, personal computers, software, enterprise solutions and related services.
In 2016, the company ranked first in the world in computer sales. It still held it in 2023 with about 23% global market share. Important product lines are Thinkpad, Legion and Ideapad.
In 2011, it acquired a majority stake in Medion AG, a European computer hardware manufacturer. In 2014, Motorola Mobility was purchased, which gave Lenovo a boost in the smartphone market.

14.00:
14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.
In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.

77.67%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
