CES 2017 | Lenovo: Legion gaming laptops announced (Legion Y520 & Y720)
This year, the gaming market is becoming far more important for Lenovo, the biggest PC manufacturer. This is the reason the segment finally received its own brand just for gaming devices, thus the new "Legion" brand is born. The first two devices were announced today, two laptops, the Legion Y520 and Y720.
Lenovo Legion Y720
The Y720 is the more expensive of the two models. Consequentially, it also has many more premium-features. For example, it has a RGB-backlit-keyboard, as new feature compared with the IdeaPad Y700, which can be seen as the predecessor. Furthermore, the Y720 is the first laptop with Dolby Atmos according to Lenovo.
Compared with the Y700, Lenovo adds Thunderbolt 3. Also, the system is VR-ready, thanks to the Nvidia GeForce 1060 that is used here. On the CPU side, Lenovo is using the newest Kaby Lake CPUs, namely the Core i5-7300HQ and the Core i7-7700HQ. Two display-options are available: FHD (1,920 x 1,080) or UHD/4K (3,840 x 2,160), both are of course IPS. The battery has a capacity of 60 Wh. Another special feature: The Legion Y720 has an inbuilt XBox One Wireless receiver, supported are four XBox One controllers at the same time.
Lenovo Legion Y520
Much more affordable is the Legion Y520, which in turn doesn´t have many of the premium-features the Y720 has. The Y520 only has a option for a FHD-display, the GeForce 1050 Ti and 45 Wh of battery-capacity. There is no RGB-backlit-keyboard, just an optional red-backlit keyboard. Dolby Atmos or Thunderbolt 3 are not present on the Legion Y520. The CPUs of the Y520 are not specified, yet, but are based on Kaby Lake, so much is clear.
Prices and Availability
The Legion Y520 is going to be available in February, the Legion Y720 in April. While the Legion Y520 starts at 899 Dollar, the Legion Y720 will cost 1,399 Dollar.
