After Lenovo brought us the Moto Z in 2016, they might release another Moto X in 2017 again.
New render images and a short video of the Moto X for 2017 were released yesterday. Based on leaked CADs, they show a very familiar design, which will not be compatible with the MotoMods apparently.

There was no new Moto X in 2016, instead Lenovo introduced the Moto Z, the Moto Z Play and the Moto M in China. Lenovo did say, that the release of the Moto Z would not be the end for the Moto X series but then no new Moto X appeared for the rest of the year. It seems that early 2017 the wait will be over and Lenovo will introduce a new Moto X phone soon. Computer Aided Designs (CAD) of the Moto X (2017) were leaked recently and based upon those designs, @OnLeaks and Android Authority collaborated to bring us early render images and a short video showing the Moto X (2017) design from all sides.

The 8,4 mm thick metal build does not have pogo pins on the rear so it can be safely assumed, that the Moto X will not be compatible with the MotoMods accessories. According to Android Authority we are looking at a midrange device which will likely have a big battery but less impressive specs than the Moto Z. The display will likely be smaller and measure 5.2 inches in size. The headphone jack is back which was missing on the Moto Z, however, it looks like Lenovo might also bring back a Micro-USB port instead of USB-C. We are expecting the Moto X to be released at the Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona at the end of February 2017.
