The console boasted a 144 Hz display, up to a Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU, detachable controllers in the style of Nintendo Switch, and even a novel FPS mode. However, despite these features, the Legion Go fell short in our detailed review due to its numerous small missteps. At a starting price of $699.99, those small weaknesses added up to a handheld console that fell short against the competition.

However, the Lenovo Legion Go has now become a stellar entry point into handheld gaming, as Lenovo has dropped the price of the console by quite a large margin. This sales price has changed the Lenovo Legion Go from a handheld console that we won’t normally recommend to something that most people will be quite happy with.

Let’s first take a look at the specs of the Lenovo Legion Go on sale. The console is powered by the Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU, 16 GB of non-expandable LPDDR5x memory, 512 GB of PCIe Gen 4 storage, and an 8-inch 144 Hz display. The display is touch-sensitive, features a QHD (1200p) resolution, and is protected by Gorilla Glass. The panel also boasts an advertised 500 nits of max brightness.

Moreover, the Lenovo Legion Go incorporates a 50 Wh battery, two USB 4.0 ports, and a microSD card slot.

As a short summary, the Lenovo Legion Go is well-built, has a good QHD display that covers the complete sRGB gamut, and has enough performance to play a majority of titles at low/medium settings. For instance, our measurements show that the Lenovo Legion Go can run Cyberpunk 2077 at 52 FPS at 1080p/low.

The Lenovo Legion Go also does well when it comes to emissions, as both the fan noise and heat output remain within acceptable limits. Unfortunately, we can’t say the same about the battery life, as the 50 Wh cell is relatively small for the size of the gaming handheld. As such, it can only sustain around 1.5 hours of playtime per charge.

Long story short, at just $438, you aren’t going to find many handheld gaming consoles that offer the same mix of performance, screen quality, and features as the Lenovo Legion Go. So, if you are just looking for a budget gaming console to get started, the Legion Go on sale is a pretty good option.
