Lenovo is well known for making great laptops especially for the office workers. With IdeaPad 510S model we have a 14-incher that mixes some aspects in a small package.

Haptics wise device provides a good look and feel. As a customer you receive a mixture of aluminium and plastic. Screen lid and outside of the laptop is covered with plastic while on the inside mostly aluminium is used.

It is hard to define this laptop as an Ultrabook and this is also not the claim by Lenovo. The motto of the series is “Powerful 14 inch laptop that keeps up with you.” which is a real fit so to say. The weight of the laptop is close to 1600 grams and it is only 20mm thick in size. As an office companion it provides great mobility with this weight and size. 14 inch could be considered a bit big compared to other 13.3 inchers, but here comes something else to think about while making the purchase decision: Price.

This model’s price is about 900$ and comes with everything you need to take care of your daily tasks. A fast SSD that provides 256 GB’s of space, Intel 6th generation Skylake i5 processor, close to 6 hours of battery run time depending on your usage, with 8 GB of RAM which is more than enough memory for office tasks and with integrated iris graphics 550 your multimedia needs are covered.

Compared to other models from Asus and Dell the whole package is definitely cheaper. A similar Dell Latitude model starts from 1500$.

If you were to look for mobility, what else would you desire? Good connectivity options is what comes first to mind. Lenovo provides 2xUSB 3.0 ports, 1xUSB 2.0 port, full sized HDMI, Ethernet connection and a SD card reader. Most of the current devices with this size on the market does not provide an ethernet port or full sized HDMI out which is a big plus for Lenovo IdeaPad 510S.

Other thing that might affect mobility is charging and with IdeaPad 510S there is no power brick just a charger with a very compact size.

Another benefit of having this device is its maintainability options. Removing the backcover is pretty easy and you have direct access to SSD and RAM slot. There are other models of this series with an option of dedicated AMD graphics card and HDD as well. All listed under Lenovo’s website. If you plan to play some games, going for a model with dedicated GPU is a better fit for you. Since access to components is easy, it is possible to purchase the cheapest model which starts from 549.99$ and you can replace HDD with an SSD and upgrade RAM if necessary. Although you need to know that supported max RAM is 8 GB.

Another thing to consider while choosing a laptop is its screen. Lenovo used a Full-HD IPS mat screen with 1920x1080 pixel resolution with enough brightness and contrast for outside usage, but not high enough to work under direct sunshine. If you plan to do graphics work, use photoshop etc. color coverage might disappoint you.

Keyboard is also good for typing. Touchpad is not that good, but it cant be said that it is bad either.

Speakers provide a good sound output, a bit higher than other comparable cheap laptops.

With its price and the performance it provides, it is easy to say that Lenovo targets corporate customers with this model. It provides more than enough performance for daily office tasks. If you are looking for something to play at least some games, you can still go with the model that has a dedicated GPU, but MSI started to present its entry level gaming laptops and you might find a better fit for yourself with those models.

Lenovo IdeaPad 510S-14ISK (80TK003KGE) best fits office users, that spend their days running from one meeting to another while it is light, powerful and provides good battery runtimes that can cover almost the whole work day.

This is a great laptop for those wanting a machine that’s reasonably thin and light but want a slightly larger screen and don’t want to compromise on key features such as a wired network connection and full-size HDMI port. At £450, this entry-level model is an excellent choice for those just wanting enough performance for general day-to-day computing, especially since it doesn’t compromise on the screen, keyboard, trackpad quality or battery life.

A vision in white. Although the tester wouldn't want to marry the light and compact, 15-inch multimedia device by Lenovo, he doesn't have anything against a business relationship. The newcomer with a dedicated GeForce 940MX did not really show any major shortcomings in the test. The most striking feature, however, remains to be the unusual color that will certainly also appeal to female users.

Lenovo has priced the entry-level Ideapad 510 at Rs.60,890, which feels a bit too much considering the quality of the overall package. This laptop does fulfill its intended purpose, which is multimedia, as it offers a sharp display, very good speakers and a good webcam. We also like that it doesn’t get too hot, and that it is possible to upgrade the hard drive and RAM without much hassle.

If you are looking for a decent daily driver with a touch of multimedia capabilities, the Ideapad 510 should be your first choice for sure. The notebook’s build quality doesn’t amaze but it’s good, nonetheless. You can surely benefit from the excellent keyboard with LED backlight but we were kind of disappointed by the touchapd and the build inconsistencies in the interior. There’s that protruding sharp edge where your palms rest.

Lenovo: Lenovo ("Le" from English legend, novo (Latin) for new) was founded in 1984 as a Chinese computer trading company. As of 2004, the company was the largest laptop manufacturer in China and, after acquiring IBM's PC division in 2005, the fourth largest in the world. In addition to desktops and notebooks, the company manufactures monitors, projectors, servers, etc, and specializes in developing, manufacturing and marketing consumer electronics, personal computers, software, enterprise solutions and related services.

In 2016, the company ranked first in the world in computer sales. It still held it in 2023 with about 23% global market share. Important product lines are Thinkpad, Legion and Ideapad.

In 2011, it acquired a majority stake in Medion AG, a European computer hardware manufacturer. In 2014, Motorola Mobility was purchased, which gave Lenovo a boost in the smartphone market.

Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

Intel HD Graphics 520: Integrated GPU (GT2) with 24 EUs found on some Skylake CPU models (15 W ULV series).

NVIDIA GeForce 940MX: Mid-range laptop graphics card based on the Maxwell architecture. Compared to the older 940M, the MX now also supports GDDR5 graphics memory and maybe slightly faster clock speeds.

Intel HD Graphics 620: Integrated GPU (GT2) found on some Kaby-Lake CPU models (15 W ULV series).

NVIDIA GeForce 940M: Mid-range graphics card of the GeForce 900M series, based on the Maxwell architecture.

6200U: Skylake-based ULV dual-core processor for thin notebooks and ultrabooks. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 520 GPU and is manufactured in 14 nm.

Intel Kaby Lake:

i7-7500U: Kaby-Lake based SoC with two CPU cores clocked at 2.7 to 3.5 GHz, HyperThreading and manufactured with an improved 14nm process.

i5-7200U: Kaby-Lake based SoC with two CPU cores clocked at 2.5 to 3.1 GHz, HyperThreading and manufactured with an improved 14nm process.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.

6500U: Skylake-based ULV dual-core processor for thin notebooks and ultrabooks. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 520 GPU and is manufactured in 14 nm.

14.00:

14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.

The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.

In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.

15.00:

15-inch display variants are the standard and are used for more than half of all laptops.

The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, often allows high resolutions and thus offers rich details on the screen, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact - simply the standard compromise.
