The IdeaPad Pro 5 sits in the middle of Lenovo’s multimedia laptop lineup. It features a combination of reasonably powerful hardware at a comparatively affordable price compared to Lenovo’s high-end options. So, with an optional discrete GPU and an OLED display, the IdeaPad Pro 5 can be a great, budget-friendly option for content creation and general multimedia use.
Last year’s IdeaPad Pro 5 Gen 9 is particularly good in this regard since the laptop has enjoyed decent discounts following the introduction of the newest IdeaPad Pro 5 Gen 10. The latest price cut has pushed the notebook down to its lowest price ever of just $635.99 on eBay. For reference, the laptop was retailing for $650 in early February which was 47% lower than the list price at that time.
So, with an additional $14 chopped off the top, the IdeaPad Pro 5 Gen 9 is now an impressive 48% less than the $1,219.99 MSRP (linked at the end).
Hardware-wise, the Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 Gen 9 on sale relies on a 6-core Ryzen 5 8645HS Zen 4 APU and RTX 3050 laptop GPU. The RAM and storage situation stands at 16 GB and 512 GB, respectively. Unfortunately, the 16 GB memory buffer is non-expandable and it might be too low for some people. The 512 GB SSD drive, however, can be expanded thanks to two M.2 slots: One M.2 2280 and one M.2 2242.
Around the front, the 16-inch 2,048 x 1,280 resolution OLED panel delivers great colors with infinite contrast, 400 nits of brightness, and complete DCI-P3 colors. The panel also refreshes at 120 Hz. For a laptop that costs $636, the presence of a 120 Hz OLED display is a major plus.
While not particularly fast, the Ryzen 5 8645HS and RTX 3050 will ensure smooth operation in routine tasks and content creation workloads. So, the IdeaPad Pro 5 Gen 9 won’t feel underpowered in all but the most demanding workloads. Moreover, Lenovo has done a good job with the cooling solution as the fans, which spin loudly under load, keep the machine cool to the touch.
Finally, the IdeaPad Pro 5 Gen 9 will also last a long time unplugged. Our 14-inch Ryzen 7 8845HS-powered review variant with a similar 84 Wh battery endured close to 12 hours in our WLAN test which bodes rather well for the 16-inch IdeaPad Pro 5 Gen 9.
In short, if a cost-effective multimedia notebook with an OLED display is on your 2025 wishlist, the IdeaPad Pro 5 Gen 9 (16AHP9) on sale delivers stunning value.
